Injured hiker rescued on Kalalau Trail Thursday

LĪHU‘E  — Personnel from the Kaua‘i Fire Department rescued an injured 41-year-old hiker from Hanakāpī‘ai Beach on the Kalalau Trail on Thursday, June 12.

According to a preliminary report, first responders received a report of a distressed hiker shortly before 3 p.m.

Personnel with Līhu‘e Fire Station aboard Air 1 responded to the incident.

First responders arrived on the scene and discovered the injured hiker near the Hanakāpī‘ai landing zone with an apparent ankle injury. Initial first aid was administered on scene. The hiker was then carried to the landing zone and loaded into the helicopter, where they were taken to Princeville Airport. Upon landing at Princeville Airport, the hiker was transferred to American Medical Response for medical care.

The scene was cleared shortly before 5:00 p.m.
