Injured hiker rescued on Kalalau Trail Tuesday

LĪHU‘E  — Personnel from the Kaua‘i Fire Department rescued an injured 27-year-old Ohio visitor approximately 1.5 miles into the Kalalau Trail on Tuesday, July 15.

According to a preliminary report, first responders received a report of a distressed hiker shortly after 10 a.m.

Personnel with Līhu‘e Fire Station aboard Air 1 responded to the incident.

First responders arrived on the scene and discovered the injured hiker approximately 1.5 miles into the Kalalau Trail with an apparent ankle injury. Initial first aid was administered on scene. The hiker was then short hauled to the Hanakāpī‘ai Stream landing zone and loaded into the helicopter, where they were taken to Princeville Airport. Upon landing at Princeville Airport, the hiker was transferred to American Medical Response for medical care.

The scene was cleared shortly after 12:00 p.m.
