LĪHU‘E — Personnel from the Kaua‘i Fire Department rescued an injured 58-year-old visitor from the Kalalau Trail on Tuesday, October 7.
According to a preliminary report, first responders received a report of an injured hiker shortly after 9:35 a.m.
Personnel with Līhu‘e Fire Station aboard Air 1 responded to the incident.
First responders arrived on the scene and discovered the injured hiker near the 1.5 mile marker landing zone with an apparent head injury. Initial first aid was administered on scene. The hiker was then taken to the landing zone and loaded into the helicopter, where they were taken to Princeville Airport. Upon landing at Princeville Airport, the hiker was transferred to American Medical Response for further medical care.
The scene was cleared shortly after 11:15 a.m.
