Injured hiker rescued on Kalalau Trail Wednesday

LĪHU‘E  — Personnel from the Kaua‘i Fire Department rescued an injured 53-year-old visitor near Hanakāpī‘ai Beach the Kalalau Trail on Wednesday, July 16.

According to a preliminary report, first responders received a report of a distressed hiker shortly after 9:30 a.m.

Personnel with Līhu‘e Fire Station aboard Air 1 responded to the incident.

First responders arrived on the scene and discovered the injured hiker at Hanakāpī‘ai Beach with an alleged heart issue. The hiker was then short hauled to the Hanakāpī‘ai Stream landing zone and loaded into the helicopter, where they were taken to Princeville Airport. Upon landing at Princeville Airport, the hiker was transferred to American Medical Response for medical care.

The scene was cleared shortly after 12:00 p.m.
