Injured hiker rescued on Kalalau Trail Wednesday

LĪHU‘E  — Personnel from the Kaua‘i Fire Department rescued a 64-year-old male Florida visitor from Kalalau Trail on Wednesday, January 4, with apparent exhaustion and difficulty breathing.

Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 responded to the incident shortly after 1:55 p.m. on Sunday.

First responders arrived on scene at the mile marker 1.5 landing zone and discovered the hiker. Rescuers medically assessed the hiker at the scene and loaded him into the helicopter, where he was taken to Princeville Airport. Upon landing at the Princeville Airport, the hiker was transferred to Hanalei fire station personnel and American Medical Response for assessment. American Medical Response personnel took over the scene and continued with advanced medical care.

The scene was cleared shortly before 4:10 p.m.
