LĪHU‘E — Personnel from the Kaua‘i Fire Department rescued an injured 50-year-old North Carolina visitor from the Kukui Trail in Kōke‘e State Park on Tuesday, June 17.
According to a preliminary report, first responders received a report of a distressed hiker shortly before 10:30 a.m.
Personnel with Waimea Fire Station and Līhu‘e Fire Station aboard Air 1 responded to the incident.
First responders arrived on the scene and discovered the injured hiker approximately one mile into the Kukui Trail with an apparent ankle injury. Initial first aid was administered on scene. The hiker was then short hauled using an ARV device to the Kukui Trail landing zone. Upon landing, the hiker was transferred to American Medical Response for medical care.
The scene was cleared shortly before 12:40 p.m.
