KALALAU – The Kaua‘i Fire Department rescued an injured 38-year-old female visitor from Kansas on Kalalau Beach on Friday, July 4.
According to a preliminary report, crews with the Hanalei Fire Station, Rescue 3 aboard Air 1, and American Medical Response responded to the incident.
At approximately 10:50 a.m., KFD personnel were dispatched to Kalalau Beach to a report of an injured kayaker. Upon arrival at 12:10 p.m., firefighters found the visitor sitting in a kayak under trees on the beach, being assisted by bystanders.
Responding personnel assessed the injury and splinted the kayaker's ankle. Bystanders assisted in carrying the visitor from the kayak to the helicopter landing zone.
The visitor was loaded into Air 1 and was transported to Princeville Airport, where she was transferred to awaiting emergency personnel for further care.
The scene was cleared at 12:45 p.m.
