LĪHU‘E — Personnel from the Kaua‘i Fire Department rescued a 36-year-old female resident from the Kuilau Trail in Wailua on Wednesday, April 15, with an apparent leg injury from a work-related accident.
The individual was conducting field work related to invasive species control efforts, supporting the protection of native ecosystems and helping to prevent the spread of invasive species on our island.
Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 responded to the incident shortly before 11:50 a.m. on Wednesday.
According to a preliminary report, first responders arrived on scene approximately 2 miles into the trail and discovered the resident. Rescuers medically assessed the resident at the scene and short hauled the resident to the first crossing of Loop Road utilizing an aerial rescue vest. Upon landing at the first crossing, the resident was transferred to Keālia Fire Station personnel and American Medical Response for assessment. American Medical Response personnel then transferred the resident to a local hospital.
The scene was cleared shortly after 12:35 p.m.
