June 12, 9 a.m., County of Kaua‘i, Kekaha brush fire

The Kaua‘i Fire Department is responding to a brush fire in Kekaha near the bottom of Kokee Road. 

According to a preliminary report, the fire was reported shortly after 7:45 a.m. Fire officials report that the fire is under control. The size of the fire is not known at this time. 

There are no threats to nearby structures and no reports of injuries. 

Assets  (New update)

Crews with the Waimea and Hanapepe fire stations, Rescue 3, tanker 1, the on-duty Battalion Chief, private landowners, and the Kaua‘i Police Department are responding.

The Kaua‘i Emergency Management Agency and the Kaua‘i Island Utility Cooperative are also monitoring the incident.

Road closures (New update)

Kokee Road is now open from Kekaha Road to the Waimea Canyon drive junction.

Updates will be provided when more information becomes available.
