KPD Celebrates Graduation of 102nd Police Recruit Class

LĪHU‘E – The Kaua‘i Police Department proudly announces the graduation of the 102nd Police Recruit Class.
On January 6, 2026, Kent Morano, Brandon Chun, Daylin Huni, and Kaleo Josiah were officially sworn in during a graduation ceremony attended by family, friends, and community members. This event marks the completion of a rigorous six-month training program.
“The badge you now wear is a symbol of the trust our community places in you,” said Chief of Police Kalani Ke. “Today marks the beginning of an important journey, one that will challenge and shape you. Serve with integrity, lead with compassion, and protect with courage. Congratulations, and welcome to the Kaua‘i Police Department.”

Kawakami. “Completing the academy is no small feat and marks the beginning of a career built on courage, integrity, and service. Being a police officer is more than a job. It is a commitment to protect and serve and to be a source of safety and reassurance for our community. The people of Kaua‘i are counting on you, and I am confident you will serve with dedication and pride. Mahalo for your commitment to keeping our island safe."
Following graduation, each officer will begin a six-month field training program, where they will be mentored by experienced officers to further develop their skills in real-world situations.

The salary for a police officer ranges from approximately $76,000 to over $118,000 and includes a robust benefit package. Qualifications include a high school diploma or equivalent, a valid driver’s license and a minimum age of 20 years.
