KAPA‘A – The Department of Parks and Recreation (DOPR) is announcing that the Kapa‘a Swimming Pool is set to reopen on Thursday, Sept. 7.

“After undergoing extensive renovations, we are pleased to announce that the Kapa'a Swimming Pool will reopen to all swimmers this Thursday,” said Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami.

With renovations to the pool beginning in August 2022, this project's scope of work includes replacing and upgrading the pool filtration, recirculation, and chlorination systems. Renovations were also made to the gutter edge and drainage systems. Installation work also consisted of a new plaster finish for the pool's interior and the replacement of deck and lane tile markers.

A blessing was also held last week, as officials, staff, and contractors attended.

“We would like to express our gratitude to everyone for their patience during the restoration period, including our Department of Parks and Recreation staff, contractors, subcontractors, visitors, and residents. Your understanding and cooperation have been greatly appreciated,” said Mayor Kawakami.

Pacific Concrete Cutting & Coring, Inc., was the general contracted for this project. Sub-contractors included Pacific Instrument Control Service, LLC., and Ron’s Electric, Inc. The design consultant was the Limtiaco Consulting Group.

Officials initially anticipated construction to be complete by late May 2023. However, further renovations were deemed necessary before the pool reopened. When exposed after removing the tiles and plaster, the pool's original shell was more deteriorated than expected.
