Kauaʻi Fire Department rescue injured visitor on Kalalau Trail

HĀʻENA – Kauaʻi Fire Department personnel rescued an injured visitor from Virginia on the Kalalau Trail on Wednesday, July 15.

According to a preliminary report, KFD personnel received a report shortly after 10 a.m. of a male hiker with an apparent knee injury near the 1.5-mile marker of the Kalalau Trail.

Personnel with the Hanalei Fire Station, Rescue 3, and Air 1 responded to the incident.

Rescue 3 personnel aboard Air 1 located the hiker on the trail shortly after 11 a.m. Due to the location, rescuers conducted a short-haul operation from a landing zone at Hanakāpīʻai Beach to safely extract the hiker.

Air 1 then transported the hiker to Princeville Airport, where he was transferred to Hanalei Fire Station personnel and awaiting medics shortly after 11:30 a.m.

The scene was cleared shortly before 12:50 p.m.
