LĪHU‘E – On Friday, Oct. 23, the Kaua’i Police Department (KPD) hosted a memorable Halloween-themed movie night at its Līhuʻe headquarters featuring “Minions & Monsters” under the stars. This free event was open to the public and had an estimated 300 attendees.
"KPD’s inaugural Halloween movie night event was designed to give the community a safe place to enjoy a family-friendly evening at the KPD Headquarters,” said Kaua’i Chief of Police Rudy Tai. “We worked with partner agencies to create a festive night of enjoyment during a time when many of our residents are facing hardships.”
Keiki were invited to trick-or-treat around the campus offices, view a Ballistic Engineered Armored Response Counter Attack Truck (BearCat) on display, jump in a bouncy house, and take a free pumpkin from a pumpkin patch. Life-size Minions made a surprise visit to the crowd. Complimentary food and movie-theater style popcorn added to the ambience.
Participating agencies set up tables offering information on jobs and social services, making this a well-rounded event where struggling families could learn about free resources.
KPD would like to thank all partner agencies who made their inaugural movie night event a success:
- Employee Council, County of Kaua’i
- State of Hawai’i Organization of Police Officers (SHOPO)
- Office of the Prosecuting Attorney, County of Kaua’i
- Kaua’i Emergency Management Agency, County of Kaua’i
- Kaua’i Fire Department
- American Medical Response
- Hale `Ōpio
- Child & Family Service Kaua’i

With Halloween less than a week away, the Kaua’i Police Department (KPD) offers the following safety tips:
- Trick-or-treat in well-lit areas in a familiar neighborhood.
- Keep a flashlight or glow stick handy.
- Children should always be accompanied by an adult while trick-or-treating.
- Children should know their address, phone number, and how to dial 911 in an emergency. Young children should have this information attached to their costume in case they get separated or lost.
- Inspect all candy before eating. Dispose of any candy not in its original packaging or showing signs of tampering. When in doubt, throw it out!
- Don’t hesitate to report suspicious activity to police.
“Halloween is a wonderful time for kids and kids-at-heart to enjoy dressing up in costumes and trick-or-treating in their neighborhoods,” stated Tai. “Even though we feel safe in our small island community, parents and guardians should be vigilant and never let their guard down. This will help to ensure a safe and enjoyable Halloween for everyone.”
"Monsters & Minions" was the featured movie at KPD's Halloween movie night event on October 23, 2026.
