Kauaʻi Fire Department extinguishes multiple structure fires Wednesday

LĪHUʻE – Kauaʻi Fire Department firefighters extinguished two structure fires on Wednesday, June 10, the first at a residence near ʻAnini Beach and the second at a home in the Kapahi area of Kapaʻa.

No injuries were reported in either incident.

In the first incident, KFD personnel received a report shortly after 6:20 a.m. of smoke coming from the area near the end of ʻAnini Road.

Personnel with the Hanalei, Kapaʻa, Līhuʻe, and Kaiakea fire stations, Rescue 3, the Fire Prevention Bureau, and the on-duty Battalion Chief responded to the incident.

According to a preliminary report, upon arrival shortly before 6:40 a.m., firefighters discovered a two-story residence with active flames on the second floor. Crews established a water supply, deployed attack lines, and extinguished the fire, which was confined to the building of origin. Firefighters then checked for fire extension and ventilated the structure.

KFD Fire Prevention Bureau investigators took over the scene and conducted an investigation.

Firefighters cleared the scene shortly before 9 a.m.

Damages are estimated at $1,453,000 to the structure and $75,000 to its contents.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.

In the second incident, KFD personnel received a report shortly after 6:30 p.m. of a structure fire on Ioana Street in the Kapahi area of Kapaʻa.

Personnel with the Kaiakea, Kapaʻa, and Līhuʻe fire stations, Rescue 3, and the on-duty Battalion Chief responded to the incident.

According to a preliminary report, upon arrival shortly before 6:40 p.m., firefighters discovered a one-story, single-family residence with flames and heavy black smoke coming from the living room area. The fire extended toward the garage, where the resident reported stored fuel tanks and a parked vehicle. The occupant of the residence was safely outside when firefighters arrived.

Crews deployed attack lines, shut off electricity to the residence, and extinguished the fire, which was confined to the building of origin.

KFD Fire Prevention Bureau investigators took over the scene and conducted an investigation.

Firefighters cleared the scene shortly after 8:20 p.m.

Damages to the structure and contents are estimated at $304,000.

The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
