Kaua‘i firefighters extinguished multiple fires this week

Kaua‘i Fire Department firefighters extinguished multiple fires this week.
KFD personnel responded to a brush fire Tuesday evening in Kekaha.
No injuries were reported, and no structures were damaged.
Shortly after 9:40 p.m. on Tuesday, firefighters were dispatched to a brush fire reported near Kaumuali‘i Highway across from St. Theresa Parish in Kekaha.
Firefighters with the Waimea fire station responded to the incident.
According to a preliminary report, KFD personnel arrived shortly before 9:50 p.m. and discovered a 10-by-20-foot brush fire near the beach across from St. Theresa Parish. The blaze was quickly controlled and extinguished.
The cause of the fire is undetermined.
The scene was cleared shortly after 10 p.m.
Shortly before 12:20 a.m. on Thursday, firefighters responded to a fire near a bus stop on Apopo Road in Kapa‘a.
No injuries were reported. However, the bus stop was damaged.
Firefighters with the Kaiākea fire station responded to the incident.
According to a preliminary report, KFD personnel arrived on scene and discovered an area 20 feet by 30 feet on fire. Fire crews quickly knocked down and extinguished the fire.
Damages to property and contents are estimated at $1,000.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Crews cleared the scene shortly before 12:25 a.m.
Later that morning, shortly after 5:10 a.m., KFD personnel responded to a fire near the Friendship House on Kūhiō Highway In Kapa‘a.
No injuries were reported, and no structures were damaged.
Personnel with the Kaiākea fire station arrived shortly before 5:15 a.m. and discovered a 20-by-20-foot brush fire that quickly grew. The fire was then controlled, knocked down, and extinguished. Crews on scene later determined that a gas tank was leaking, prompting the closure of Kūhiō Highway from Kawaihau Road to Mailihuna Road. Kaua‘i Police rerouted traffic through Kawaihau Road and Mailihuna Road for approximately two hours.
After expelling the contents of the gas tank, Hawai‘i Gas was notified to retrieve it.
The scene was cleared at approximately 8:10 a.m.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
