Kaumuali‘i Highway Closed Following Three-Vehicle Collision Monday Mor

‘ŌMA‘O – Police responded to a three-vehicle crash this morning near the intersection of Kaumuali‘i Highway and ‘Ōma‘o Road. 

At approximately 7:00 a.m., a 2000 Toyota sedan was attempting a left turn from ‘Ōma‘o Road onto Kaumuali‘i Highway. A vehicle traveling in the outer eastbound lane stopped to allow the sedan to complete the turn. At that time, a 1995 Toyota truck traveling in the inner eastbound lane struck the front of the sedan. Following the initial impact, the truck lost control and entered the westbound lane, where it was struck by a 2020 Toyota truck.

The driver of the 1995 Toyota truck, a teenager, was transported to Wilcox Medical Center and later flown to Queens Medical Center with critical injuries. No other injuries were reported.

In accordance with juvenile privacy laws, no further information about the driver is being released at this time.

Kaumuali‘i Highway was closed for approximately one and a half hours while the Kaua‘i Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation.
