KAPA‘A – The Department of Public Works and Grace Pacific LLC., are announcing that portions of Kawaihau, Hau‘a‘ala, and Mailihuna roads will be closed from August 21 to 25, from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. The closure is necessary for permanent roadway striping.

During this time, lanes will be shifted to help accommodate for the construction. Please note that Kawaihau, Hau‘a‘ala, and Mailihuna roads will experience temporary road narrowing. Additionally, during student pick-up and drop-off times, work effort will be minimized to help accommodate both Kapa‘a High School and the elementary schools.

Motorists are advised to expect brief and occasional delays. Please exercise caution and drive slowly when commuting through the work area.

The project aims to construct a peanut-shaped roundabout, sidewalks, paved shoulders, and various other roadway improvements to help improve the safety and operations of the five-way intersection, and for people using multiple modes to travel efficiently and safely through Kawaihau Road, Hau‘a‘ala Road, and Mailihuna Road in Kapaʻa. This area contains St. Catherine’s School/Church, Kapaʻa High School, Kapaʻa Elementary School, Mahelona Hospital, and Gore Park.

The project has an estimated completion date of February 2024.

Dates and times are subject to change depending on weather and other factors.
