Man Arrested Following Hanamā‘ulu Structure Fire

HANAMĀ‘ULU – A 57-year-old man was arrested on Sunday in connection with a structure fire in Hanamā‘ulu.

On Sunday, May 11, 2025, at approximately 9 a.m., first responders were dispatched to Hehi Road following reports of a structure fire. Personnel with the Kaua‘i Fire Department successfully extinguished the fire. No injuries were reported.

According to witness accounts, a suspect was seen intentionally setting the structure on fire. Responding officers with the Kaua‘i Police Department were able to identify Nelson Kane, 57, of Hanamā‘ulu, as the suspect. Kane was arrested at the scene without incident for the offense of Arson in the First Degree. He is currently being held in KPD cellblock with bail set at $20,000.
