The Kaua‘i Fire Department is responding to a brush fire in Waimea near mile marker 2 of Waimea Canyon Drive.
According to a preliminary report, the fire was reported shortly before 9 p.m. The initial size of the fire is estimated to be 200 feet by 300 feet. Crews have knocked down the southern flank, with most crews having relocated to the northern flank to continue fighting the fire.
There are no threats to nearby structures and no reports of injuries.
Assets
Personnel with the Waimea, Hanapēpē, Kalāheo, and Kōloa fire stations, Rescue 3, Tanker 3, Tanker 5, the on-duty Battalion Chief, the Kaua‘i Police Department, the Department of Public Works, and the Department of Land and Natural Resources are responding.
The Kaua‘i Emergency Management Agency is also monitoring the incident.
Road closures
Waimea Drive remains closed until further notice.
