Kauai Emergency Management Agency News Release

The Kaua‘i Fire Department is responding to a brush fire in Waimea near mile marker 2 of Waimea Canyon Drive. Crews continue to put out spot fires along the fire line. Approximately 100 acres have been scorched by this fire.

There are no threats to nearby structures and no reports of injuries. 

The fire was reported Saturday, March 7, at 9 p.m. and was initially estimated to be 200 feet by 300 feet.

Response

According to a preliminary report, crews have the fire under control despite active flames. Firefighters will remain on scene to continue suppression efforts.

Assets 

Personnel with the Waimea fire station, Air 1, the Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife, Jack Harter Helicopters, Inc., and a dozer are responding to this incident.

The Kaua‘i Emergency Management Agency is also monitoring the incident.

Road closures

Waimea Canyon Drive remains closed until further notice.
