The Kaua‘i Fire Department is responding to a brush fire in Waimea near mile marker 2 of Waimea Canyon Drive. The fire was reported Saturday, March 7, at 9 p.m., and was estimated to be 200 feet by 300 feet.
There are no threats to nearby structures and no reports of injuries.
Response
According to a preliminary report, crews have the fire under control despite active flames. Firefighters will remain on scene to continue suppression efforts.
Assets
Personnel with the Waimea fire station, Air 1, and the Department of Land and Natural Resources Division of Forestry and Wildlife are responding to this incident.
The Kaua‘i Emergency Management Agency is also monitoring the incident.
Personnel with the Waimea, Hanapēpē, Kalāheo, and Kōloa fire stations, Rescue 3, Tanker 3, Tanker 5, the on-duty Battalion Chief, the Kaua‘i Police Department, the Department of Public Works, and the Department of Land and Natural Resources initially responded to this incident Saturday at 9 p.m.
Road closures
Waimea Canyon Drive remains closed until further notice.
