‘ANINI – A three-day multiagency search has been suspended Wednesday afternoon for a missing 59-year-old Arizona man in waters off ‘Anini Beach.
The multiagency search began on Sunday, Nov. 3, after a group of snorkelers realized one in their party had not returned to shore. He was last seen at approximately 11:45 a.m. that morning.
Personnel with the Kaua‘i Police Department, Kaua‘i Fire Department, the U.S. Coast Guard, the Ocean Safety Bureau, and volunteers with Kaua‘i Search and Rescue responded to the incident. Air, land, and sea searches were conducted through Wednesday afternoon.
“It’s never easy when we suspend the search for a missing swimmer, and when we cannot provide complete closure for someone’s family. Everyone involved worked tirelessly for this reason, and our sincere condolences are with the man’s family,” said Kaua‘i Fire Chief Michael Gibson.
"We are truly grateful for the efforts of all the agencies and volunteers who participated in the search,” said Assistant Chief Kalani Ke. “Our hearts are with the missing person’s family and loved ones during this incredibly difficult time, and we appreciate the support of everyone involved."
