Nov. 13, 7:35 A.M. UPDATE, County of Kaua‘i, Kōkeʻe brush fire

Kaua‘i Fire Department firefighters contained a brush fire in the Kōkeʻe area, near mile marker 4, early Thursday morning. The fire was reported shortly before 10 p.m. Wednesday, November 12, and the size of the blaze was estimated to be 10 acres.

No injuries or damaged structures have been reported at this time.

Response

According to a preliminary report, crews worked throughout the night and successfully contained the fire. Crews are returning this morning to finish mopping up and to ensure no further hot spots remain.

Assets

Crews with the Hanapēpē, Kalaheo, and Waimea fire stations, Rescue 3, Tender 1, and the on-duty Battalion Chief are responding to this incident. The Department of Land and Natural Resources, Division of Forestry and Wildlife assisted in the incident, providing mutual aid.

The Kaua‘i Emergency Management Agency is monitoring the incident. 

Road closures

Kokeʻe Road is currently closed to ensure KFD personnel safety.
