LĪHU‘E – The Kauaʻi Police Department (KPD) congratulates Officer Branden Barroga, who was named one of Hawaiʻi’s Top Cops for his outstanding service, initiative, and dedication to public safety. He received the honor at the Top Cop Hawaiʻi Awards Ceremony on Friday, Oct. 30, 2026, in Honolulu.

Since joining KPD in 2021, Officer Barroga has served in patrol and investigative roles while also contributing as a certified Field Training Officer, member of the Special Response Team, and secretary of the State of Hawaiʻi Organization of Police Officers Kauaʻi Chapter.

He was named KPD Employee of the Month twice, in October 2025 and June 2026. His October recognition followed his work on a complex stolen vehicle and firearms investigation that led to the apprehension of a wanted felon and the recovery of illegal narcotics, a loaded sawed-off shotgun, and evidence linking the suspect to multiple felony investigations. In June, he was recognized for his proactive policing efforts, including 29 arrests resulting in 32 charges, 30 traffic citations, and service of several high-risk warrants during March 2026.

From August 2025 through August 2026, Officer Barroga responded to 1,756 calls for service, served as the primary officer in 327 investigations, and made more than 100 arrests, including arrests involving serious felony offenses.

“Effective policing requires officers who take ownership, follow through, and look for ways to make a difference beyond the immediate call,” said Chief Rudy Tai. “Officer Barroga exemplifies that commitment and sets a strong example for his fellow officers. We are proud of his accomplishments and grateful to have him serving alongside us at the Kauaʻi Police Department.”

Officer Barroga’s investigative abilities, sound judgment, and commitment to his fellow officers and the community have made a meaningful impact on Kauaʻi.
