LĪHU‘E – The Kaua’i Police Department (KPD) recognized three Employees of the Month for May during the Kaua’i Police Commission meeting held on Friday, May 22, 2026.
Sergeant Shawn Hanna, Officer Joseph Himongala, and Officer Tyler Henshaw of KPD’s Traffic Safety Section were honored for their exceptional investigative work involving a 2025 fatal traffic incident in Līhuʻe. Their professionalism, dedication, and compassionate support provided to the victim’s family throughout the investigation were especially noteworthy.
On Feb. 12, 2025 a pedestrian traveling on Nāwiliwili Road near Nokekula Street was fatally struck by a vehicle. An investigation ensued, and on Feb. 13, 2025, the hit-and-run driver was identified and arrested. “The actions of Sgt. Hanna, Officer Himongala, and Officer Henshaw exemplify the professional standards, values, and practices of KPD,” said Chief Rudy Tai. “They not only fulfilled the expectations of their professional duties but also remained empathetic and compassionate towards the victim’s family during a very difficult time.”
