Officials advise no swimming, ocean activities at Hanalei Bay

HANALEI – Kaua‘i Ocean Safety Bureau officials are advising no swimming or other ocean activities at Hanalei Bay until further notice due to a shark sighting.

OSB officials report that two 6- to 7-foot grey reef sharks shark was sighted in Hanalei Bay this afternoon, July 11. No injuries were reported.

As a safety precaution, OSB officials have posted warning signs and will continue to monitor the area.

Lifeguards will reassess the area tomorrow. If there are no other sightings, the beach will reopen to ocean activities Saturday, July 12. Updates will be provided if more information becomes available.
