HANALEI – Ocean Safety Bureau officials are advising no swimming or other ocean activities at Hanalei Bay and all north-facing shores due to high surf and hazardous ocean conditions. County lifeguards advise no recreational water activities along all north-facing shores.

As a safety precaution, OSB officials have posted warning signs and are monitoring the area.

A High Surf Advisory is in effect through 6:00 p.m. today, December 15, for north- and west-facing shores of Kaua‘i and Ni‘ihau, according to the National Weather Service. Surf up to 12 to 16 feet along north-facing shores are forecasted and up to 8 to 12 feet along west-facing shores.

Entering the water in these areas during the High Surf Advisory is hazardous and could cause serious injury or death. Beachgoers are also advised to use extreme caution, as large breaking waves could make it dangerous for those standing along the shoreline.
