Parks and Recreation News Release

LYDGATE – The Department of Parks and Recreation, with the Friends of Kamalani and Lydgate Park and Oceanit Laboratories Inc., invites the public to attend a community meeting regarding the Morgan’s Ponds Breakwater Maintenance Project on July 25, from 12 p.m. to 2 p.m. at the Hilton Garden Inn Kaua‘i Conservatory Room, located at 3-5920 Kūhiō Highway in Kapaʻa, adjacent to Lydgate Beach Park.

The purpose of the meeting is to provide an update on and discuss the proposed plan to repair the Morgan’s Ponds breakwater wall at Lydgate Beach Park. Please RSVP by emailing lydgate@oceanit.com by July 17.

This meeting follows a community engagement session held on December 7, 2024, during which participants reviewed and discussed options for a long-term maintenance strategy to preserve Morgan’s Ponds, its shoreline, and the breakwater structure. It also builds upon an initial community “talk story” session held on July 20, 2024, at Lydgate Beach Park, where community members shared ideas that helped shape the alternatives presented at the December meeting.

Community members are encouraged to participate and provide feedback on the proposed design and maintenance plan of the breakwater wall.

If you need an auxiliary aid/service or other accommodation due to a disability, contact the Department of Parks and Recreation at 808-241-4460 or parks@kauai.gov as soon as possible. Requests made as early as possible will allow adequate time to fulfill your request. Upon request, this notice is available in alternate formats such as large print, Braille, or electronic copy.
