Police Investigate Fatal Collision in Kekaha

KEKAHA – Police responded to a traffic collision Tuesday morning involving a vehicle and a bicyclist on ʻElepaio Road.

On September 22, 2026, at approximately 7 a.m., a 2018 Toyota SUV operated by a 62-year-old woman was traveling eastbound on ʻElepaio Road when it made a left turn onto Alae Road and collided with a westbound bicyclist.

The bicyclist, a 91-year-old man from Kekaha, was not wearing a helmet at the time of the collision. He was transported to Kauaʻi Veterans Memorial Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries.

The intersection of ʻElepaio Road and Alae Road was closed for approximately two hours while officers with the Kauaʻi Police Department’s Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation.

The cause of the collision remains under investigation. Speed and impairment do not appear to be factors at this time.
