LĪHU‘E – The Kaua‘i Police Department is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying human remains discovered earlier this year.

On April 9, 2025, partial human remains were found along the shoreline of ‘Aliomanu Beach. Because of the advanced state of decomposition, consistent with prolonged exposure to the ocean environment, forensic laboratory testing and DNA analysis required additional time to complete. These analyses confirmed the remains are those of a male and generated a DNA profile, which can be used to compare with missing persons reports or family reference samples to help identify the individual.

A surgical mesh consistent with previous hernia repair was recovered along with the remains. Clothing items found with the remains included two pairs of long thermal underwear, one labeled Fruit of the Loom and the other Indera, along with a pair of green corduroy pants, estimated to be approximately 34 inches in waist size and 42 inches in length.

Investigators have coordinated with the Honolulu Police Department and reviewed missing persons and welfare check reports, but have yet to identify a match. The investigation remains active.

There is no indication of any ongoing public safety concern.
