Real Property Division launches Online Home Exemption Application
Published on September 18, 2025
LĪHU‘E – The County of Kauaʻi Real Property Division has launched a new Online Home Exemption Application system, marking a major step in making government services more accessible, efficient, and user-friendly for residents.
Developed in partnership with TrueRoll and Tyler Technologies, the new platform allows homeowners to apply for a home exemption online using a computer or mobile device.
In the past, residents were required to submit paper applications by mail or in person, which often led to long lines and processing delays, especially near filing deadlines. By digitizing the process, the new system streamlines applications, speeds up approvals, and provides timely updates to residents.
“This launch reflects our county’s commitment to delivering progressive, technology-forward solutions for our people,” said Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami. “By reducing paperwork and allowing secure online submissions, we’re making life easier for homeowners while enabling our staff to provide faster, more accurate service.”
The online system offers several benefits to the public. Residents can now apply from home or by scanning a QR code at the county office. Required documents, such as a Hawai‘i Driver’s License, can be uploaded directly from a smartphone camera, eliminating the need to make copies or stand in line. Automated checks and validations reduce clerical backlogs and allow applicants to receive notifications more quickly. Most importantly, the new system makes filing more convenient and accessible, while giving staff the ability to focus their attention on more complex cases.
The Online Home Exemption Application is now available to all residents through the County of Kauaʻi Real Property Division’s website at www.kauai.gov/HomeExemption-Application.
