LĪHUʻE  – The County of Kauaʻi will serve as the presenting sponsor of the 2026 Ka Pewa Youth Summit – Kupu Kelakela, a free youth leadership event for all high school students from Kaua‘i to be held on Tuesday, April 28, 2026, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Kauaʻi War Memorial Convention Hall.

Space is limited, and high school students are encouraged to register early. To sign up, visit: https://kklcollective.com/youthsummit

The youth-led, one-day summit will bring together more than 200 students from across Kauaʻi for interactive discussions, career exploration, and networking opportunities with community leaders and professionals.

This year’s theme, Kupu Kelakela, means “to rise in glory, to grow in greatness,” and reflects the summit’s focus on empowering young people to build the skills, confidence, and connections needed to pursue their goals and contribute to their communities here on Kauaʻi.

Mayor Derek Kawakami, who will serve as the summit’s keynote speaker, emphasized the importance of supporting Kauaʻi’s next generation of leaders.

“This is the first time our youth will drive the entire agenda at the Ka Pewa Youth Summit, ensuring that we are addressing what matters most to them,” said Mayor Derek S.K. Kawakami. “Our young people are one of our greatest strength. The summit gives students an opportunity to strengthen their leadership skills, explore career pathways, and connect with mentors and resources that can support their future here at home. The County is proud to support this effort.”

The summit will feature two rounds of breakout sessions on topics including substance abuse prevention, workforce development, financial literacy, healthcare careers, mental health and wellness, and environmental stewardship. Students will also be able to connect with local employers, financial institutions, and service providers during a resource fair on-site.

The event is led by youth leaders from the Kupu Kelakela Kauaʻi Internship Program, with the Kauaʻi Economic Development Board serving as fiscal sponsor.
