Sewer credit applications due Dec. 31, available online

LĪHUʻE –  The County of Kauaʻi Department of Public Works Wastewater Management Division (WMD) announces that residential sewer customers have until Dec. 31 to apply for a County sewer credit worth $36 a month in 2027.

Applications are now available online and in person. The County must receive or postmark applications by Dec. 31, 2026. Late applications will not be accepted.

The preferred way to apply is online at https://connect.kauai.gov/, where customers can complete and submit the application. 

Customers may also download a printable application at https://www.kauai.gov/Government/Departments-Agencies/Public-Works/Wastewater or pick up a hard copy at the WMD office in Suite 295 of the Līhuʻe Civic Center.

Applications were historically mailed to residential sewer customers, but damage to the County’s IT systems from the Sept. 9 Kapule Building fire has delayed this year’s mailing. Applications will still be mailed. In the meantime, WMD is making them available now so customers can apply before the deadline.

Under County Ordinance 1131, eligible residential customers may receive the credit on their residential sewer bill. At $36 a month, the credit totals up to $432 over the 2027 calendar year.

To qualify, applicants must:

1. Receive sewer service from the County of Kauaʻi.

2. Have a 2025 annual adjusted gross income of $50,000 or less.

3. Not receive sewer assistance payments from any other organization.

4. Claim the credit for only one residence.

5. Use the dwelling unit for which the credit is claimed as their principal residence.

6. Be current on all sewer utility payments, including payments under any sewer payment plan.
