LĪHU‘E —The County of Kaua‘i Solid Waste Division is reminding Kaua‘i Residents and visitors to be mindful of the waste generated during the holiday season.

Trash will increase by 25% between Thanksgiving and Christmas, an extra sixty tons per day. Items such as boxes, wrapping paper, Styrofoam, plastic bags, food packaging, Christmas trees and decorations, and more add up.

As these items accumulate, customers are encouraged to recycle accepted materials at the Kaua‘i recycling sites around the island. If the Kaua‘i recycle bins are full when you arrive, please return later. Do not leave recyclables on the ground because they can become windblown, wet, and unrecyclable.

If you purchased a live Christmas tree, please be sure to remove all decorations and the stand and bring your tree to one of the Refuse Transfer Station’s green waste drop-off areas or to Kaua‘i Nursery & Landscape Landscaping (KNL) on Kaumuali‘i Highway in Puhi seven days a week from Dec. 26 to Jan. 31. Trees can be loaded onto the truck parked in the KNL driveway.
