LĀWA‘I – Police responded to a single-vehicle traffic incident that occurred on Wednesday, Feb. 21, which resulted in the closure of Kōloa Road.
At approximately 9:15 a.m., a Toyota multi-purpose vehicle with a single occupant was traveling westbound on Kōloa Road when the vehicle veered off the road and struck a utility pole. The utility pole fell across Kōloa Road, obstructing traffic in both directions. Police and medics responded to the scene and the driver of the vehicle was transported to the Wilcox Memorial Hospital and treated for non-life-threatening injuries. Speed and impairment do not appear to be factors in the crash.
Westbound traffic was rerouted onto ‘Ōma‘o Road and eastbound traffic was redirected onto Piko Road. Kōloa Road was closed for approximately one hour while crews worked to clear the roadway and restore service to the area.
