Parks and Recreation News Release

WAIMEA – The Department of Parks and Recreation announces that Waimea Cook Field will be closed due to construction from March 10, 2025, to January 2026, weather permitting.

The closure is necessary for tennis court resurfacing and other upgrades. Repairs to the rock retaining walls surrounding the tennis courts and park perimeter are also planned.

Contracted by Jas. W. Glover, Ltd. and funded through a Capital Improvement Plan (CIP) project, construction will begin on March 14, with staging commencing on March 10. The Waimea Cook Field tennis courts will remain closed for the duration of the project.

The scope of the $3.2 million project includes repairing the rock wall foundation of the tennis courts, removing and replacing deteriorated court surfaces, painting new court surfaces and sports lines (with two courts dedicated to tennis and two courts designated for mixed use of tennis and pickleball), replacing fences and gates, installing new tennis nets, repairing the retaining rock wall, and replacing fluorescent lights with LED fixtures.

Starting March 10, parking along the west side of Ola Road, from the tennis courts down to Kaumuali‘i Highway, will be closed to the public. Parking along Tsuchiya Road adjacent to the tennis courts will also be off-limits. The construction staging area will be located along the left-field side of the park, below the tennis courts.

Future news releases will announce updates on the construction and other closure areas.

The Department of Parks and Recreation thanks the public for their patience and understanding.
