Water service shutdown scheduled in Kalāheo July 23 and 24

KALĀHEO– The Department of Water (DOW) reminds customers that a water service shutdown is scheduled for parts of Kalāheo, mauka of Kaumualiʻi Highway, on Wednesday, July 23 and Thursday, July 24, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., weather permitting. Water service will be turned off for customers to allow the contractor, Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company Inc. (HDCCI), to connect a new water line as part of the Kalāheo Water Systems Improvements Project.

The water service shutdown will occur in two phases:

  • Phase 1: Wednesday, July 23. Puʻuwai Road, between Kikala Road and Wawae Road, includes all branching roads, as well as Poʻohiwi Road and part of Lae Road;
  • Phase 2: Thursday, July 24. Poʻohiwi Road and a part of Lae Road.

Customers located in the affected areas are advised to prepare for the water service shutdown by taking the following steps: 

  • Store enough water to meet your needs until water service can be restored;
  • Notify family, friends, tenants and neighbors;
  • Those with faulty water heaters should ensure that their water heaters do not empty during the shutdown. 

Motorists are advised to exercise caution when driving through these areas, follow the directions of flaggers and adhere to posted signs.
