Woman struck by vehicle causes closure of Kūhiō Highway

Dec. 26, 2024 Update: The 25-year-old woman has been identified as Anastasi Brown, of Līhu‘e. She succumbed to her injuries on Dec. 24, marking the 7th traffic-related fatality on Kaua‘i this year. The Kaua‘i Police Department extends heartfelt condolences to her family and loved ones.

LĪHUʻE – Police responded to a traffic incident Monday afternoon in Līhu‘e where a woman was struck by a vehicle while crossing Kūhiō Highway.
At approximately 12:20 p.m. on Monday, Dec. 23, a 2016 Hyundai sedan traveling northbound on Kūhiō Highway near Wailua Golf Course struck a woman as she was crossing the highway.
The victim, a 25-year-old woman with no permanent address, was transported to the Wilcox Medical Center with serious injuries and remains in critical condition. The driver did not report any injuries.
Police closed Kūhiō Highway in both directions for approximately two hours as officers with KPD’s Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation.
At this time, speed does not appear to be a factor and toxicology results are pending. The investigation remains ongoing.
