Anela Say Arrested Following Traffic Collision in Wailua

WAILUA – At approximately 1 p.m. on Wednesday, July 29, 2026, officers from the Kaua’i Police Department (KPD) responded to a serious traffic collision near the intersection of Kuamoʻo Road and Waikōlia Street in Wailua. This resulted in an arrest.

According to a preliminary investigation, a 2026 Kawasaki motorcycle was traveling westbound on Kuamo’o Road near the intersection with Waikōlia Street, when a 2012 Nissan Rogue traveling eastbound on Kuamo’o Road attempted to turn left onto Waikōlia Street, and struck the motorcycle.

The motorcyclist, a 57-year-old man from Līhuʻe, was thrown onto the road upon impact and sustained serious injuries. He was taken to Wilcox Medical Center and then medevaced to Queen’s Medical Center on O’ahu, where he remains in critical condition. The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.  

The driver of the Nissan, Anela Say, a 24-year-old female from Kapa’a, was uninjured in the collision. KPD officers arrested Say at the scene for Negligent Injury in the First Degree, Inattention to Driving, and Driving Without a License.  She has been released pending further investigation.

Police records show that Say has a prior criminal history of over 70 misdemeanor arrests, including nine traffic citations for Driving Without a License, and five arrests for Driving Without a License. 

Kuamo’o Road was closed in both directions for approximately two and a half hours while KPD’S Traffic Safety Section conducted an on-scene investigation.
