LĪHU‘E – The Kaua’i Police Department (KPD) invites parents and guardians to ensure that their children’s car seats are properly installed during the month of July at free safety events co-hosted by KPD, Kaua’i Planning & Action Alliance, and Hawai’i Department of Transportation. KPD officers will be on hand to talk story with the community and provide information on child passenger safety.
The free Car Seat Safety Check Event will take place on the following dates, times, and locations:
Certified child passenger safety technicians will be on hand to inspect your car seat free of charge. They will also be available to answer questions about car seat installation and demonstrate the correct way to install and use them.
According to a study by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), most parents and caregivers believe they know how to install car seats correctly, but around half (46%) have installed their child’s car seat incorrectly. The safety events are an opportunity to have a one-on-one learning experience and become confident that your child’s seat is installed correctly.
For further details about the event, contact Kaʻiu Anderson at bethmarie.k.anderson@courts.hawaii.gov, Leah Ho at leah@kauainetwork.org, or Sergeant Shawn Hanna at shanna@kauai.gov.
The free Car Seat Safety Check Event is scheduled for July 11, 14, and 25 at various locations in Līhuʻe.
