Surfer Dies at Hanamāʻulu Beach Park on Sunday

LĪHU‘E – On Sunday morning, a Līhuʻe man died in waters off of Hanamāʻulu Beach Park.

On August 2, 2026 at approximately 10:30 a.m., first responders were dispatched to Hanamāʻulu Beach Park following reports of an unresponsive surfer next to his board, approximately 25 yards offshore. Bystanders brought the individual to shore and administered CPR until medics arrived and continued life saving measures. All attempts to revive the individual were unsuccessful. The individual was transported to Wilcox Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

An autopsy is pending to determine the official cause of death and any contributing factors. At this time, there is no evidence to suggest foul play.
