Woman Pulled from Waters below Nīnini Point Lighthouse on Saturday

LĪHU‘E – On Saturday afternoon, a woman was pulled from waters below the Nīnini Point Lighthouse, located north of Nāwiliwili Harbor, and was later pronounced dead by a medical doctor.

On August 1, 2026, at approximately 3:30 p.m., bystanders reported what appeared to be an unresponsive person floating in the water below the Nīnini Point Lighthouse.

U.S. Coast Guard personnel pulled the individual to shore where first responders from the Kaua’i Fire Department performed lifesaving measures but were unable to revive them. Medics then transported the individual to Wilcox Medical Center, where they were pronounced dead.

The decedent has been identified as Millie Mallon, a 35-year-old woman of Līhuʻe.

An autopsy is pending to determine the official cause of death and any contributing factors. At this time, there is no evidence to suggest foul play.

The Kaua‘i Police Department offers its condolences to Ms. Mallon’s family and loved ones during this difficult time.
