Tax Maps

The mapping of Hawaiʻi for taxation was initiated in 1917 with the Appropriation Act. In 1932, a comprehensive plan for a uniform mapping system was adopted. Tax Map Keys provided for the accounting of all properties based on location, boundaries, area, and ownership for the purpose of tax valuation.  The State is divided into four tax districts (1-Oahu, 2-Maui, 3-Hawaii, 4-Kauai). This can be seen on the statewide map. The island of Kauaʻi is the Fourth Tax District of the State of Hawaiʻi and was further broken down into five zones (shown in the map below). Tax Maps are organized by Zone, Section, and Plat, with individual Parcels numbered within each Plat map.

Map Numbers

The first two numbers of Plat maps refer to Zone and Section, and the last two numbers indicate the Plat. These correspond to your Parcel ID Number. For instance, if your Parcel ID Number is 360020090000 (3-6-002-009-0000), the Zone is 3, Section is 6, Plat is 2, and Parcel is 9. The Plat map containing this parcel is named K3602A. Another example is Parcel ID Number 540150210049 (5-4-015-021-0049), where the Zone is 5, Section is 4, Plat is 15, Parcel is 21, and CPR is 49. This parcel would appear on Plat map K5415. The Plat maps all have a “K” or “k” in front and may or may not have an “A” at the end, but the letters are not important.
