Free Wildfire Home Assessments
The County of Kauaʻi, in partnership with the Hawaiʻi Wildfire Management Organization (HWMO), is offering free, one-hour educational wildfire home assessments for residential properties through December 31, 2026.

During the assessment, trained County home assessors will walk around your property with you, identify wildfire risks, answer your questions, and provide personalized recommendations to help you better prepare your home for wildfire. This is a voluntary educational service, not a code inspection.

Scheduling Information
Assessment appointments are available:

• Monday–Friday: 8:00 a.m., 12:00 p.m., and 5:00 p.m.
• Saturday: 8:00 a.m. and 9:00 a.m.

Only available appointment times are displayed in the online booking calendar. If a date or time is not shown, that appointment has already been reserved. If none of the available appointment times work for your schedule, please contact the Planning Department at 808-241-4050 or planningdepartment@kauai.gov to discuss alternate scheduling options.

Before You Schedule

• Please schedule only if you intend to keep your appointment, as assessment appointments are limited.
• Enter a phone number and email where you can be reached. Your email will be used to send your personalized assessment report.
• After booking, you'll receive an automatic confirmation email, followed by an email from your assigned home assessor.

To apply for a fireworks permit, please follow the instructions below. A smartphone or tablet is recommended for the application process to make uploading a photo ID easier.

• Visit the link above and click on the “Kauai Fire Department” icon, then "Firecracker Permit" and follow prompts.
• If approved, the permit will be emailed to you.
• Print the permit and bring it to the Kauai Fire Department Headquarters at 4444 Rice St STE 315, Lihue HI 96766 from 8:00 am to 3:45 pm Monday through Friday to make payment of $25.00
• Payments at the Fire Department can be made via cash or check.  Checks must be made out to; Director of Finance.
• If payments must be made via credit card, payments must be processed at the DMV from 8:00 am to 3:45 pm, Monday through Friday.
• If you need assistance creating a connect.kauai.gov account or don’t have a printer, Fire Department staff can assist you with applying and collecting payment.

Applicants must be at least 18 years old.

Officials remind the public that fireworks and firecrackers may only be ignited on private property between 9 p.m. on Dec. 31 and 1 a.m. on Jan. 1.
