Firefighters extinguish structure fire Tuesday evening

KAPA‘A   – Kaua‘i Fire Department firefighters extinguished a structure fire in Kapa‘a on Tuesday, May 7.

No injuries were reported.

Firefighters were dispatched to a report of a structure fire at Kapa‘a on Kahuna Road shortly before 4:50 p.m. on Tuesday.  

Personnel from the Kapa‘a and Kaiakea fire stations, the Fire Prevention Bureau, and the on-duty Battalion Chief responded to the incident.

According to a preliminary report, upon arrival shortly before 5 p.m., firefighters with the Kaiakea Fire Station discovered a gazebo-like structure fully engulfed in flames on Kahuna Road. Personnel with the Kapa‘a station arrived soon after. The fire was controlled and extinguished using approximately 750 gallons of water. It was determined that flames from the gazebo melted part of the roof of the main residential structure.

 After firefighters extinguished the fire, KFD Fire Prevention investigators took over the scene and conducted an investigation.

Firefighters cleared the scene shortly before 6:30 p.m.

Damages to the structure and contents are estimated at $15,000.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
