First responders rescue hiker in Kalalau Thursday

KALALAU – First responders rescued a 36-year-old female Massachusetts visitor in Kalalau on Thursday, May 2.

Kaua‘i Fire Department personnel with the Hanalei fire station and Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 responded to the incident.

According to a preliminary report, KFD received a report of an apparent dehydrated hiker near the Kalalau Beach at approximately 2:10 p.m. on Thursday.

When Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 arrived at the Kalalau Beach scene, they found the hiker, who reported apparent dehydration. She was transported to Princeville Airport to awaiting personnel from the Hanalei fire station and American Medical Response. After being assessed by medical personnel, she was released on the scene and declined medical transport.

The scene was cleared shortly after 4 p.m.
