First responders rescue injured hiker in Kalalau Tuesday

KALALAU – First responders rescued a 39-year-old male O‘ahu resident in Kalalau on Tuesday, May 7.

Kaua‘i Fire Department personnel with the Hanalei fire station and Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 responded to the incident.

According to a preliminary report, KFD received a report of an injured hiker near the Kalalau Beach shortly before 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

When Rescue 3 aboard Air 1 arrived at the Kalalau Beach scene, they found the hiker, who had an apparent ankle injury. He was transported to Princeville Airport to awaiting personnel from the Hanalei fire station and American Medical Response. AMR personnel continued treatment on the hiker before transporting him to Wilcox Medical Center.

The scene was cleared shortly before 1:50 p.m.
