KPD and U.S. Marshals apprehend shooting suspect

LĪHUʻE – Police have arrested a suspect in connection with a shooting that occurred early Monday morning.

On Apr. 8, at approximately 12 a.m., a 28-year-old man of Līhu‘e sustained a gunshot injury in Hanamā‘ulu. The man was medevaced to the Queens Medical Center on O‘ahu in serious condition. He was treated and subsequently released on Apr. 10.

KPD collaborated with the U.S. Marshal Service to apprehend suspect Duane Dawson, a 53-year-old man of Hanamā‘ulu. Dawson was taken into custody on the strength of a warrant of arrest on Apr. 11 for the offense of Attempted Murder in the Second Degree.

Dawson was released after posting the $200,000 bail on Apr. 12.

“KPD would like to thank the public for their cooperation,” said Assistant Chief Kalani Ke. “We’d also like to thank the U.S. Marshal Service for their assistance and ongoing commitment to keep our island safe.”

This investigation remains ongoing.
