Lane and road closure notices on Pu’uwai Road extended through Sept 30

KALAHEO – The Department of Water (DOW) and its contractor, Hawaiian Dredging Construction Company, Inc. (HDCCI) has extended the intermittent lane closures and road closure notices on Pu’uwai Road and Po’ohiwi Road for the Kalaheo Water Systems Improvements Project through September 30, 2024, weather permitting. 

Excavation and waterline work is being conducted on Po’ohiwi Road, and along portions of Pu’uwai Road.

Residents, pedestrians and motorists are advised to adhere to flaggers and posted signs at the following areas: 

• Lane closures on Pu’uwai Road – Partial lane closures will be in place on Pu’uwai Road, between the intersection of Po’ohiwi Road and the intersection of Kikala Road from 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday to Friday and on the north-end of Pu’uwai Road near Pu’ulima Road from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.  Additionally, intermittent lane closures will be implemented along Pu’uwai Road as work progresses through the area.   
• Road closure on a portion of Pu’uwai Road – A road closure is being implemented on Pu’uwai Road from the intersection of Pu’ulima Road to the end of Pu’uwai Road, 24-hours a day, seven days a week.  This portion of Pu’uwai Road is an unpaved road, without residential or commercial dwellings, therefore, no vehicle or pedestrian access and no parking will be allowed in the work zone.  Road closure signs and barriers will be posted. 
• Local traffic only on Po’ohiwi Road – Due to the narrow roadway, access will be granted to local traffic only on Po’ohiwi Road during the hours of 8 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday to Friday.  Additionally, the following road work schedule is currently in place for Po’ohiwi Road and will continue until work is completed. 

Po’ohiwi Road Access Schedule: Subject to change, weather permitting.  

• Closed: 8 a.m. to 8:50 a.m. Open 8:50 a.m. to 9 a.m.   
• Closed: 9 a.m. to 9:50 a.m. Open 9:50 a.m. to 10 a.m.  
• Closed: 10 a.m. to 10:50 a.m. Open 10:50 a.m. to 11 a.m.  
• Closed: 11 a.m. to 11:50 a.m. Open 11:50 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.  
• Closed: 12:30 p.m. to 1:20 p.m. Open 1:20 p.m. to 1:30 p.m.  
• Closed: 1:30 p.m. to 2:20 p.m. Open 2:20 p.m. to 2:30 p.m.  
• Closed from 2:30 p.m. to 3:20 p.m. Open from 3:20 p.m. until the next business day.  

This notice may be extended due to weather and as project needs and schedule updates arise.
