Officials remind customers of curbside trash collection procedure

LĪHU‘E – The Public Works Solid Waste Division would like to remind residents that curbside trash collection can occur as early as 4:50 a.m. There is no set collection time on your collection day.

Collection time may vary depending on staff availability, equipment issues, or other factors outside the control of the County.

Setting your trash out the night before or by 4:30 a.m. at the latest is highly recommended to ensure your refuse is collected. If you do not set out your trash during this period, you will be asked to bring your refuse to the nearest refuse transfer station for disposal.

Below is the complete list of collection setout rules. If you’ve set out your trash at the appropriate time and all other rules have been followed but have still not been serviced, please call 808-241-4841 for assistance.

• Carts must be put out for collection the night before the scheduled pick-up day or by 4:30 AM at the latest. Carts not set out by 4:30 AM WILL NOT be picked up.

• The cart lid must be in the fully dosed position prior to pick up.

• Trash should only be paced in your assigned refuse cart.

• Only trash inside the cart will be picked up.

• All trash must be bagged prior to being placed in refuse carts.

• Only dry trash should be paced in refuse carts. Liquids must be drained or absorbed prior to placing in carts.

• Carts must be placed at least 5 feet away from any object with at least 16 feet of clearance above, subject to variance approved by the County of Kauai.

• When carts are placed in a row, on cul-de-sacs for example, carts must be 3 feet apart, subject to variance approved by the County of Kauai.

• Refuse carts should be removed rom the curbside as soon as possible after the collection is completed.

If you receive a tag on your cart for any violation, you will need to transport your to the nearest transfer station or landfill.
